The impact investing category of Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards honors funds, social impact bonds, and other investments in changemaking organizations or initiatives that generate societal benefit along with financial return. This year’s winner, United Airlines’s Ventures Sustainable Flight Fund, is supporting startups in the sustainable aviation fuel space. So far, the more than $200 million fund has backed startups working on fuel made from a variety of sources, from algae grown in seawater to agricultural waste.
